Why is my pool losing water?
A falling water level can have several explanations. A few careful observations help distinguish everyday water loss from a problem that needs professional investigation.
Start with what changed.
Evaporation and splash-out can lower the level. Recent cleaning or maintenance can also affect it. A continuing, unexplained drop deserves attention, especially if you are adding water more often than usual. A single reading cannot identify the cause.
Keep a dated record of the water level, rainfall, swimming activity and any water added. If you have an automatic fill system, tell the office; replenishment can make ongoing loss less obvious.
What is worth recording?
- When you first noticed the change and whether it continues between visits.
- Visible wet areas near the pool, equipment or plumbing, photographed without opening equipment.
- Whether you notice the loss during normal equipment operation or while it is normally off.
- Recent maintenance, construction or equipment work.
- Any unusual bubbles, water at the equipment pad or change in circulation.
When should you request leak detection?
Contact a pool professional when unexplained loss persists, wet areas recur or circulation changes at the same time. A wet patch or bubbles are clues, not proof of the exact leak location. The investigation may need to consider the pool structure, fittings and plumbing as well as the equipment.
Do not drain the pool or open pressurized equipment to investigate. If the water becomes too low for normal operation, contact the office and follow your equipment’s operating guidance.
What should you send Get Wet Pools?
Send your address, observations, water-level history and safe photos of the affected area. Tell us whether you have an automatic fill, spa or water features. Our pool leak detection and repair service is the next step for a persistent, unexplained loss. For a visible pump leak, see pump repairs.
Model-specific information matters.
This guide explains observations to share with a pool professional. It does not identify the fault in your equipment. Refer to the manual for your exact model.
